Good Faith Estimate

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

Sagelight Counseling is a private-pay practice, which means every client has the right to a written estimate of what care is expected to cost before it begins. That right comes from the federal No Surprises Act.

In plain terms. Federal law gives you the right to a written estimate of what your care is expected to cost when you are not using insurance. You can ask for one before you schedule anything. If a bill ever comes in at least $400 above your estimate, you have the right to dispute it. For more, visit cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

How this works at Sagelight

Every Sagelight client is private pay, so every client receives a Good Faith Estimate. You do not need to ask for it. It arrives in writing through the secure client portal once your first session is scheduled, alongside the rest of the intake paperwork.

The estimate covers a full twelve months of weekly sessions, which is the longest period one estimate can cover. Read it as a ceiling rather than a plan. Most people meet less often as things improve, so the actual total usually comes in lower. The session fee and cancellation policy behind the number are on the FAQ page, and we go through both on the free consult before anything is booked.

You will get a new estimate each year, any time the fee changes, if the expected length or frequency of our work changes meaningfully, or any time you ask for one.

Asking for an estimate

You can request a Good Faith Estimate at any point, including before you decide to schedule anything. Call 720-514-9227 or use the contact form, and you will receive one in writing within three business days. Asking what therapy costs counts as a request, so if cost comes up on the consult, an estimate follows.
